Almost Red Productions is an independent film company founded by Roberto F. Canuto and Xu Xiaoxi — two filmmakers working between Asturias and Chengdu, shaped by that distance.
Their films move between fiction and documentary, exploring identity, desire and queer experience through intimate, character-driven stories where silence carries as much weight as words.
Rooted in emotional truth and a strong visual sensibility, their work seeks what lies beneath — in memory, in landscape, in the spaces between people.
Selected films are available to rent or purchase through Vimeo On Demand, offering direct access to the work beyond the festival circuit.
Roberto F. Canuto & Xu Xiaoxi
Roberto F. Canuto and Xu Xiaoxi began their collaboration in Los Angeles in 2008 — a Spanish filmmaker from Gijón and a Chinese filmmaker from Chengdu, whose distinct backgrounds became the foundation of a shared cinematic language.
Their work has traveled from Raindance to Outfest, from Mumbai to Paris — always returning to the same questions: who we are, where we belong, and what we leave behind.
